Symptomatic myoclonus causes contractions of the levator veli palatini. Essential palatal myoclonus causes contractions of the tensor veli palatini, patients frequently complain about ear clicks, there is no identifiable etiology, no additional neurologic deficit, and the MRI is unremarkable.(3)
